5 FUN Things to do INDOORS in Morehead City North Carolina

On February 20, 1861, with John Motley Morehead, the 29th Governor of North Carolina, serving as a key founder and developer and Bridges Arendell, Jr. presiding as mayor, Morehead City was incorporated.  The NC Port City flourished because the Newport River was eighteen to twenty feet deep and had a mile wide channel and the terminus of the 1857 Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad was constructed to Shepard’s Point. Routes of Morehead City running east to west were named for the developers and first leaders, including William Fisher, Bridges Arendell, Peter G. Evans, David Shepard, and John Shackelford.  In addition to the port and railroad, the shoreline and bountiful fishing have always attracted visitors and residents to the area in general. Morehead City became a popular vacation spot on the Atlantic coast. As its population and development expand, Morehead City continues to be an important city, not only in North Carolina’s history but also in the state’s economy. At Barefoot-Chandler & Associates Real Estate, we are thankful for the original founders and the current administration of planners and developers and we are blessed to live and work in Morehead City, The Gem of The Crystal Coast.
