Spring Maintenance Tips
As the days get longer and before the weather gets too hot makes it the perfect time to tackle a few home projects. Springtime is more than the ideal time to not only get your home cleaned and organized but to make repairs. Making minor repairs now will help you avoid costly repairs later as well as getting your home ready to enjoy for the upcoming seasons.
§ Clean gutters and downspouts
Cleaning your gutters yearly prevents debris build up. Clogged gutters and downspouts can cause your wood trim at the eaves to rot or allow water to pool around your foundation.
§ Air Conditioner Inspection
Cut back and clear away any vegetation and debris from around the compressor to ensure good air flow. Now would also be an ideal time to service your HVAC system before it starts working hard over the hot summer months.
§ Turn on the Sprinklers
Once your system is running you can make sure it is running properly. You will be able to see if you need to repair any leaks or broken sprinkler heads or if adjustments are needed.
Wash away all the dirt and grime that accumulated on your house over the winter months. It’s also a good time to clean your deck, walkways and driveways.
§ Check Your Deck
Replace any rotting or lifting boards and secure loose railings or stairs.
§ Repair, Restain or Reseal Woodwork –Fences, Railings, Trellis’ and Pergolas
Repair or replace any loose or rotted wood. Reseal or restain any woodwork as it will help it look and last longer than if left untreated.
§ Inspect Windows and Doors
We want to keep our cold air in and bugs and water out of our homes. The best way to be sure that happens is to check the caulking around all doors and windows and check all screens for holds and tears. Repair and replace as needed.
§ Get Lawnmower Ready for Summer
Change the oil, charge the battery and sharpen the blade. Regular maintenance will keep your mower in good shape as well as keeping your lawn looking good.
§ Home Safety Check
Replace batteries in smoke detectors, check fire extinguishers and make sure exhaust fans are in good working order. You want to be sure they will work when you need them.
§ Drain Water Heater
Your wash away any sediment build up and prolong the life of your water heater and may even reduce your electric bill.
